Announcement of Officer Deaths in Alabama

 

Chief William Clayton "Bill" Waites

WAITES, CHIEF WILLIAM "BILL" CLAYTON, of Ashville, formerly of Pleasant Grove, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at the age of 61. He worked for the city of Birmingham Parks and Recreation Board from 1969-1972.  Bill was a police officer and sergeant at Mountain Brook Police Dept. from 1972-1984. He served as Public Safety Director (as Police Chief/Fire Chief) of Pleasant Grove from 1984-present. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Clay and Betty Waites. He is survived by Susan Waites, his wife of 13 years; daughter Stacey Hawley of Birmingham; son, Brad Waites of Birmingham; stepdaughters, Dawn Martin (Tim) of Concord and Stacy Garrison of Ashville; one grandson; five step-grandchildren; his brother-at-heart, Stanley Pitts; and by his many friends. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 9, 2009 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hwy 150, Hoover. Funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church of Pleasant Grove, Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at 11:00 AM, Bro. Bob Pruett officiating. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South. In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials to the Greater Birmingham Humane Society in memory of Chief Bill Waites.
